![]() | I was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on 13 May 1945, the first child of Jean and John Kennedy. I graduated from Westmount High School in June 1962 and entered McGill University as a University Scholar and Peterson Scholar in Music. I adored Latin - still do - so the combination of Latin, Greek and music seemed a natural one to study. I paid my tuition fees and my fraternity bill by playing the organ and directing choirs in several Montreal churches. The best thing to happen during my time at McGill was meeting Nancy Dorothea Lyne of New York City. She and I were married on 11 June 1966, just two weeks after graduation. Nancy was a graduate of Grace Church School and The Lennox School. She kindled my interest in private education. She insisted on the best education for our children. So it was that Heather attended St. Peter's School in Bay Shore, then went on to The Waldorf School in Garden City, New York and graduated from Kent School, Kent, Connecticut. That solid foundation allowed her to gain early admission at Smith College from which she transferred to Harvard University in 1990, graduating magna cum laude in 1992. Rebecca attended the Cathedral Nursery School in Garden City, The Westminster School in Simsbury and St. Andrew's School in Nassau, Bahamas which she parlayed into a year at Marlboro College in Vermont finishing up at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Sons Leroy and Angelo attended St. Anne's School and The R-E-S-P-E-C-T Academy which I co-founded in Nassau. I spent thirty-five years as a professional church musician after earning my Fellow and Choirmaster's diplomas from The Royal College of Music in London. I was on the adjunct faculty of Dowling College, Oakdale; Adelphi University in Garden City and Hofstra University in Hempstead. I was also Organist and Lecturer in Church Music at The George Mercer Jr. Theological Seminary in Garden City. Since 1997 I have created and
maintained a major website on Private
Schools for About.com. I am very proud of this site which has won Best of
Web in Forbes Magazine since 2000. I have written extensively on most aspects of
private primary and secondary education for Private School Review and Boarding School Review. Over the years I have developed an empathy and sympathy for the societal challenges and educational choices we parents face today. It is, at best, a vast array of options and, at worst, a bewildering road map of confusing turns and twists. Let me help you and guide you along the right way. |
